Anxiety
Disorders
There are several different
anxiety
disorders, each with their own symptoms
and treatments. One of these
anxiety
disorders is
Generalized Anxiety
Disorder (GAD).
People who are suffering from
GAD will
be experiencing a continued type of tension or depression that prevents
them from leading a normal life. They will be worried about the
smallest things, even when there is no reason for worrying at all. They
will find themselves worrying about family, money, work, or their own
health.
People who suffer from
GAD will
find it impossible to
relax and will find that they are often tired, depressed and irritable.
People
with
GAD often
suffer from other types of mental health problems, such
as depression, and will often be substance abusers.
Panic
disorder is another
anxiety disorder.
These people frequently have
panic attacks that make them believe they are in danger. The fear is so
extreme as to be considered unnatural and these people will have
depression. These patients may also develop
phobias, such as social phobia or agoraphobia, and will do anything to
avoid the causes. Again, these fears can't be controlled and make life
seem almost unbearable at times and feeling very depressed.
A person that has a social
phobia will avoid many types of social situations that make them afraid
and cause a panic attack. This includes meeting new people or speaking
in public. Agoraphobia will cause a person to be fearful of being in a
situation where they may have difficulty in escaping or where they may
feel some type of embarrassment or depression. In extreme cases of
agoraphobia a
person may have great difficulty in leaving what they think is the
safety of their home. When a person with an
anxiety disorder has a
specific phobia they will be afraid of a particular object such as dogs
or spiders. They often are aware that their fear is unnatural and
unwarranted but will still be unable to overcome their feelings of fear
and depression.
Obsessive-compulsive
disorder (OCD)
is another type of
anxiety disorder.
This type of
anxiety disorder a
causes the individual to have frequent but
irrational worries. Their obsessions may be focused on routine tasks
such as turning off the stove, or a habitual concern with cleanliness
and germs. Often the people with
OCD
are aware of their compulsive
behavior but are unable to control their irrational behavior and
depression.
Medication prescribed by a physician can help the person with
OCD
control their obsessions.
Individual suffering with
OCD often
develop ritual behaviors that they carry out compulsively. Many times
these ritual behaviors can take up to an hour or two to complete each
day resulting in a huge amount of upheaval or depression in their life.
Anxiety
of any type causes great
distress and
depression. However, effective treatments and
management are available, so if you, or your loved ones, are suffering,
don't be afraid to seek professional help from a doctor, psychologist
or other professional therapist.
